Welcome to my book blog. I’m Hanna Gil, and, after moving and traveling a lot in my life, I settled in Pacific Northwest, a wonderful place, as the increasing number of people coming here can attest to.
I was told I started reading when I was about four years old. My parents thought that I simply remembered the phrases from the books they were reading to me, but after some investigation, they discovered that I learned how to read while playing “school” with my seven-year-old friend. Shortly after I learned from her how to read, I suggested that from now on, I’ll be playing the role of teacher, and she would be a student. Once more, it proved how empowering education can be…
And so the story began.
I read fiction, non-fiction, poems, mysteries, and plenty of articles, especially from The New Yorker. Although my professional career is not in literature, I did a lot of translations, worked in college libraries, dabbled in publishing, and even established my small publishing house.
I particularly enjoy literature from different cultures and countries. It’s a fascinating journey to enter other worlds and other people’s minds.
George R. R. Martin said it the best with his well-known quote, “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.”
Let us live a thousand lives!
